Overview

Brinzia is an ophthalmic suspension developed by Zivira Labs, containing a fixed-dose combination of brinzolamide (1.0% w/v) and brimonidine tartrate (0.2% w/v). It is approved as a generic alternative to Simbrinza for the reduction of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Brinzolamide is a carbonic anhydrase II inhibitor that reduces aqueous humor secretion by slowing bicarbonate ion formation, thereby decreasing sodium and fluid transport. Brimonidine tartrate is a selective alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist that lowers IOP by both suppressing aqueous humor production and enhancing uveoscleral outflow. Together, these two active ingredients provide a synergistic, dual-action therapeutic effect to manage intraocular pressure and prevent progressive optic nerve damage and vision loss.
