brinzolamide

Brinzolamide is a small molecule carbonic anhydrase inhibitor used primarily as an ophthalmic suspension to lower elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It acts by inhibiting carbonic anhydrase 2 (CA-II) in the ciliary processes of the eye, reducing aqueous humor secretion and thereby decreasing intraocular pressure. Brinzolamide is highly specific, non-competitive, and reversible in its inhibition of CA-II. The drug was developed to provide effective local reduction of intraocular pressure with fewer systemic side effects compared to oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitors[1][3][4][5][6].
