Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Brinz T is a fixed-dose combination ophthalmic suspension containing brinzolamide and timolol maleate. Brinzolamide is a potent inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase II (CA-II), the predominant isoenzyme in the eye; inhibition of CA-II in the ciliary processes of the eye decreases aqueous humor secretion by slowing the formation of bicarbonate ions. Timolol is a non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor blocking agent that reduces aqueous humor production by blocking beta-receptors in the ciliary body. The combination of these two agents results in a greater reduction in intraocular pressure (IOP) than either component administered alone. Brinz T is primarily indicated for the treatment of elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension who are insufficiently responsive to monotherapy.
