Overview

Britomar is a prolonged-release formulation of torasemide, a loop diuretic used for the treatment of arterial hypertension and chronic heart failure. It acts by inhibiting the Na+/K+/2Cl− cotransporter in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle in the kidney, thereby increasing the excretion of water, sodium, and chloride. Unlike immediate-release torasemide, Britomar's prolonged-release profile is designed to provide more stable natriuresis and blood pressure control over a 24-hour period. The Society of Specialists in Heart Failure has evaluated the drug in Phase 4 clinical trials to assess its impact on central hemodynamics and natriuretic daily profiles compared to immediate-release formulations.
