Overview

Brivaracetam is a third-generation antiepileptic drug primarily used to treat partial onset seizures in adults, children, and infants 1 month of age and older. It is classified as a pyrrolidine anticonvulsant. Brivaracetam acts as a high-affinity ligand for synaptic vesicle protein 2A (SV2A), selectively binding to this target in the brain to decrease abnormal electrical activity and help control seizures. It may also have some inhibitory effect on voltage-dependent sodium channels. Brivaracetam is available as an oral tablet, oral solution, and intravenous injection[1][3][5]. The drug was developed by UCB and marketed under the brand name Briviact[5][9].
