Brix 3000 is an enzymatic gel formulation containing high concentrations of papain, utilized for chemo-mechanical caries removal (CMCR) in dentistry. Developed by Brix S.R.L., the product employs a specialized Encapsulated Buffer Emulsion (EBE) technology to stabilize the enzyme and ensure its proteolytic activity at an optimal pH. Brix 3000 selectively degrades the denatured collagen fibers in infected, necrotic dentin tissue while preserving the affected and healthy dentin. This softening of the carious tissue allows for its removal using simple manual instruments (such as excavators), which reduces or eliminates the need for conventional rotary drills (burs) and local anesthesia. This minimally invasive approach is particularly effective in pediatric dentistry, as it significantly reduces patient pain perception, fear, and anxiety associated with traditional restorative treatments.
