Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Brizantin is an approved combination drug developed by Materia Medica Holding for the treatment of nicotine addiction and alcohol dependence. It is formulated as orally disintegrating tablets containing ultra-low doses (released-active form) of affinity-purified antibodies to brain-specific protein S-100 and affinity-purified antibodies to cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1). The antibodies to S-100 protein modulate the functional activity of S-100, exerting neuroprotective, anxiolytic, and antidepressant effects, and act as an agonist of the sigma-1 receptor. The antibodies to CB1 receptor modulate the endocannabinoid system, particularly in the mesolimbic system, to normalize neurotransmitter balance and reduce cravings for psychoactive substances. Together, these components synergistically alleviate withdrawal symptoms, reduce anxiety, and decrease the urge to consume nicotine or alcohol.
