Overview

BRL 26830A is a beta-adrenoceptor agonist with high selectivity for thermogenesis, developed as an antiobesity agent. It acts primarily as a beta-3 adrenergic receptor agonist, increasing metabolic rate and promoting weight loss by enhancing fat metabolism. Clinical studies have shown that it can significantly increase weight loss in obese subjects on a restricted diet compared to placebo, with the majority of weight loss attributed to adipose tissue reduction. The drug was originally developed by SmithKline Beecham (now GSK). Common adverse effects include mild tremor due to skeletal muscle beta-2 adrenoceptor activation[1][2][3].
