BRM424 is an investigational ophthalmic solution being developed by BRIM Biotechnology for the treatment of neurotrophic keratitis (NK), a rare degenerative eye disease that causes severe corneal damage and can lead to vision loss. The active pharmaceutical ingredient is a synthetic 29-amino acid peptide derived from Pigment Epithelium-Derived Factor (PEDF), which possesses neurotrophic and anti-inflammatory properties. Developed using BRIM's proprietary PEDF-Derived Short Peptide (PDSP) technology platform, BRM424 works by stimulating the proliferation and differentiation of limbal stem cells to promote corneal regeneration and repair. The drug received FDA Orphan Drug Designation in 2022 and entered Phase 2 clinical trials in the United States in 2023 for patients with Stage 2 and Stage 3 NK.
