BRM521 is a novel drug candidate developed by BRIM Biotechnology for the treatment of osteoarthritis. It is a PEDF-derived short peptide (PDSP), sharing its active pharmaceutical ingredient with BRM421 but formulated differently for intra-articular injection. The mechanism of action involves promoting joint cartilage regeneration and relieving pain by inducing the proliferation and differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), which supports cartilage repair in damaged joints. Preclinical data suggest that BRM521 may offer therapeutic advantages over existing osteoarthritis treatments, with Phase 1 clinical trials expected to begin in 2025.
