Overview
Broad-spectrum cannabidiol (bsCBD) is a hemp-derived extract containing a variety of cannabinoids and terpenes but specifically processed to remove all detectable levels of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). This specific formulation, manufactured by Ecofibre (Ananda Hemp), is being evaluated by the University of Colorado Denver in a Phase 2 clinical trial (NCT04873453) for the treatment of Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). Cannabidiol is hypothesized to reduce alcohol consumption and related phenotypes by modulating the endocannabinoid and serotonergic systems, specifically through negative allosteric modulation of the CB1 receptor and agonism of the 5-HT1A receptor, which may mitigate craving and anxiety associated with alcohol use.
