Overview

Broccoli sprouts extract is a botanical extract derived from the young sprouts of *Brassica oleracea*. It is highly concentrated in glucosinolates, particularly glucoraphanin, which is converted by the enzyme myrosinase into the bioactive isothiocyanate sulforaphane (SFN). The extract also contains other related compounds such as erucin. These isothiocyanates are potent inducers of Phase II detoxification enzymes and the Nrf2 antioxidant response pathway. In oncological research, particularly concerning bladder cancer, broccoli sprouts extract has demonstrated the ability to inhibit cell viability, induce apoptosis through caspase activation, and cause cell cycle arrest in both non-invasive and invasive human bladder cancer cell lines. It is primarily developed and studied as a chemopreventive agent and dietary supplement.
