Brodimoprim

Brodimoprim is a synthetic small molecule antibiotic belonging to the aminopyrimidine class. It acts as a selective inhibitor of bacterial dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR), an enzyme essential for folate synthesis and thus DNA replication in bacteria. Brodimoprim demonstrates antibacterial activity against a range of bacterial pathogens and is structurally related to trimethoprim but exhibits greater potency and improved tissue penetration. It has been used primarily for the treatment of bacterial infections, including respiratory tract and otorhinolaryngologic diseases. Brodimoprim was first approved in Spain in 1996[1][3][5][7][8].
