Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bromelain + rutoside is a combination pharmaceutical product and nutraceutical used for its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and anti-edematous properties. Bromelain is a mixture of proteolytic enzymes extracted from the stem and fruit of the pineapple plant (*Ananas comosus*); it exerts its effects by modulating the arachidonic acid cascade, specifically inhibiting cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and reducing the levels of pro-inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and bradykinin. Rutoside, also known as rutin, is a bioflavonoid glycoside that provides antioxidant activity and acts as a vasoprotective agent by reducing capillary permeability and fragility. This combination is commonly indicated for the relief of pain and swelling associated with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, trauma, and post-operative recovery, often serving as an adjunct or alternative to traditional non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
