Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bromine-77-labeled prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) ligand is a radiolabeled small molecule targeting PSMA, developed for potential applications in targeted radionuclide therapy (specifically Auger-electron therapy) and SPECT imaging of prostate cancer. The agent utilizes the bromine-77 isotope (77Br), which decays via electron capture with a half-life of 57.0 hours, emitting low-energy Auger electrons that can induce highly localized, lethal double-strand DNA breaks when internalized into tumor cells. It is developed as part of an elementally matched theranostic pair alongside its positron-emitting counterpart, bromine-76 (76Br), which is used for PET imaging. Preclinical studies in murine tumor models have demonstrated favorable biodistribution and tumor-targeting capabilities concordant with established PSMA-targeting radioligands.
