Overview

Bromochlorosalicylanilide is a halogenated salicylanilide compound primarily used as an antifungal agent. It has also been reported to cause allergic contact dermatitis in some individuals. The drug belongs to the broader class of salicylanilides, which are known for their antimicrobial and anthelmintic properties. The primary mechanism of action for this group is the uncoupling of oxidative phosphorylation in mitochondria, thereby disrupting cellular energy production and leading to cell death[2][5]. Bromochlorosalicylanilide has also been investigated for its potential anticancer effects due to its cytotoxic activity against certain cell lines[3][6]. It is mainly used topically.
