Overview

Bromothalonil, also known as methyldibromo glutaronitrile (MDBGN), is a small molecule preservative widely used in personal hygiene and industrial products. It is primarily utilized as an allergen in epicutaneous patch tests to aid in the diagnosis of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) for individuals aged six years and older. Bromothalonil is a known dermatological irritant and allergen that has been banned in many EU countries due to high rates of contact allergy. Its mechanism of action has not been clearly described[1].
