Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bromus inermis pollen extract, also known as smooth brome or brome grass pollen extract, is a biologic product used for allergen immunotherapy. Marketed by ALK-Abello, Inc. under the brand name CENTER-AL, it is formulated as an alum-precipitated therapeutic allergenic extract. [23] This preparation creates a depot effect, allowing for the slow release of the allergen and enhancing the immune response. It is administered via subcutaneous or intradermal injection to treat allergic conditions such as allergic rhinitis in patients with confirmed sensitivity to Bromus inermis pollen. The treatment involves a process of hyposensitization, where gradually increasing doses of the allergen are administered to induce immunological tolerance, aiming to shift the patient's immune response from an allergic (IgE-mediated) to a non-allergic state. Treatment is overseen by physicians experienced in allergen immunotherapy and is dosed based on individual patient sensitivity determined by skin testing. [23, 34]
