Bromus secalinus pollen extract is a biological allergen product derived from the pollen of the rye brome grass (*Bromus secalinus*), also known as cheat or chess grass. It is primarily used in clinical allergy for the diagnosis of hypersensitivity through skin testing and for the treatment of allergic conditions via allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT). The extract is indicated for patients suffering from allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, and allergic asthma triggered by exposure to rye brome pollen. Its therapeutic mechanism involves the induction of immunological tolerance; repeated administration of the allergen shifts the immune response from a Th2-dominated allergic profile to a Th1 and regulatory T-cell (Treg) profile. This shift promotes the production of allergen-specific IgG4 blocking antibodies and reduces the activation and degranulation of mast cells and basophils, thereby mitigating the inflammatory response upon subsequent natural exposure to the allergen.
