Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bronchipret Tropfen is a herbal medicinal product developed by Engelhard Arzneimittel for the treatment of acute bronchitis and respiratory tract infections characterized by cough and mucus production. It is a combination of liquid extracts from thyme (Thymus vulgaris) and ivy (Hedera helix). Thyme possesses secretolytic, bronchospasmolytic, and antibacterial properties, primarily attributed to its essential oil components like thymol and carvacrol. Ivy leaf extract acts as a secretolytic and mucolytic agent, facilitating the expectoration of thick mucus by reducing its viscosity. Together, these ingredients work synergistically to alleviate coughing fits, reduce inflammation in the bronchial tubes, and clear the airways. The formulation is specifically designed as oral drops for efficient dosing and contains approximately 24% ethanol by volume.
