Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Bronchoretard** is a sustained-release brand formulation of theophylline, a methylxanthine derivative used as a bronchodilator for asthma, COPD, and other reversible airflow obstruction conditions. It relaxes bronchial smooth muscle, reduces airway responsiveness to stimuli, and provides prolonged therapeutic effects through extended-release capsules. The active ingredient, theophylline (sometimes as choline theophyllinate or oxtriphylline salt forms), inhibits phosphodiesterase enzymes, blocks adenosine receptors, and activates histone deacetylase to suppress inflammation.[2][3][11][12]
