Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination product consisting of extracts from the root bark of Broussonetia papyrifera (Moraceae) and the whole plant of Lonicera japonica (Caprifoliaceae), typically in a 1:1 weight ratio. The most studied formulation uses a prenylated flavonoid-enriched extract from B. papyrifera and an ethanol extract from L. japonica. This combination has demonstrated synergistic anti-inflammatory, antinociceptive, antioxidative, and immunomodulatory effects in preclinical models. Mechanistically, it inhibits 5-lipoxygenase activity and downregulates proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-4 while reducing serum IgE levels and matrix metalloproteinase activities. It has shown efficacy in animal models for systemic inflammation (including sepsis), asthma, allergic airway inflammation, bronchitis (acute/chronic), pain management, and general inflammatory disorders[1][2][3]. The safety profile appears favorable based on non-toxic findings in animal studies.
