Overview

*Broussonetia papyrifera* extract, derived from the paper mulberry tree, is a botanical extract investigated for its anti-inflammatory, skin barrier-improving, and reproductive inhibitory properties. In dermatological research, specific fractions of the extract have been shown to inhibit inflammatory markers such as monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) and CD86, while suppressing chemokine signaling pathways. Additionally, an alkaloid-rich fraction has been identified to activate the PPAR signaling pathway, promoting ceramide production and improving skin barrier function. Beyond skin health, the extract is being explored as a plant-based sterility agent for rodent population control, where it has demonstrated the ability to inhibit sex organ growth and reduce testosterone levels and sperm quality in male rodents.
