Overview

BRP-180 is an orally bioavailable small molecule orexin 2 receptor (OX2R) agonist being developed by Bioron Pharma for the treatment of narcolepsy. Narcolepsy, particularly Type 1, is a chronic neurological disorder characterized by the loss of orexin-producing neurons in the hypothalamus, which leads to excessive daytime sleepiness and cataplexy. BRP-180 is designed to selectively activate the OX2R, thereby mimicking the action of endogenous orexin (hypocretin) to promote wakefulness and stabilize sleep-wake cycles. The drug is currently being evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials to assess its safety, tolerability, and efficacy in patients with narcolepsy.
