Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Brumeton (also known as Brumeton Colloidale) is a combination ophthalmic and otic solution containing the corticosteroid betamethasone (as betamethasone sodium phosphate) and the sulfonamide antibacterial sulfacetamide sodium. Developed by Bruschettini, it is indicated for the local treatment and prophylaxis of superficial ocular inflammations and infections (such as blepharitis, conjunctivitis, and keratitis) as well as otitis externa and media. Betamethasone acts as an anti-inflammatory agent by binding to and activating the glucocorticoid receptor, while sulfacetamide sodium provides bacteriostatic activity by inhibiting bacterial dihydropteroate synthase, thereby blocking folate synthesis.
