Overview

BRX011 is an investigational oral small molecule inhibitor of Complement Factor D, developed by BioJiva for the treatment of geographic atrophy (GA) secondary to age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Complement Factor D is a serine protease that serves as the rate-limiting enzyme in the activation of the alternative complement pathway, a system whose overactivation is linked to the progression of retinal degeneration in GA. By inhibiting Factor D, BRX011 aims to reduce complement-mediated inflammation and tissue damage in the macula. As an oral therapy, it offers a potentially less invasive alternative to the currently approved intravitreal injections for GA. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1/2 clinical trials.
