Overview

Bryostatin 8 is a member of the **bryostatin** family, a group of macrocyclic lactones derived from the marine bryozoan Bugula neritina. Bryostatins, including bryostatin 8, are known as modulators of protein kinase C (PKC) isozymes. While bryostatin 1 is the best-studied clinically and has been investigated for the treatment of cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and other neurological disorders, bryostatin 8 shares similar structural and mechanistic features but has not been tested in clinical trials and is primarily studied in preclinical or biochemical research. The mechanism of action involves **modulation of protein kinase C**, which can lead to changes in cell signaling, apoptosis, and immune function. Bryostatin 8, like other bryostatins, is considered for its potential antineoplastic (anticancer), immunomodulatory, and neurorestorative properties.
