Overview

Bryotoxin B is a specific bufadienolide compound isolated from the medicinal plant *Bryophyllum pinnatum* (also known as *Kalanchoe pinnata*). As a member of the bufadienolide class, it is structurally related to cardiac glycosides and is traditionally known for its potential cardiotonic and cytotoxic properties. Recent research, including in silico molecular docking studies, has highlighted its potential therapeutic utility in treating atherosclerosis. These studies suggest that bryotoxin B may act by targeting Adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and Inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), thereby potentially reducing the vascular inflammation and thickening associated with atherosclerotic disease. It is primarily studied as a bioactive constituent of herbal extracts in traditional Indonesian medicine.
