Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BSG005 Nano Lung is a lung-targeted nanoformulation of BSG005, a novel polyene macrolide antifungal agent developed by Biosergen. BSG005 is a genetically engineered derivative of nystatin designed to retain potent fungicidal activity while significantly reducing the nephrotoxicity typically associated with polyene antifungals like amphotericin B. The Nano Lung formulation is specifically optimized for targeted delivery to the pulmonary system to treat deep-seated invasive fungal infections, such as aspergillosis. It exerts its effect by binding with high affinity to ergosterol in the fungal cell membrane, leading to the formation of transmembrane pores, leakage of intracellular contents, and rapid cell death. The program is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
