Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BSP-201 is a botanical extract derived from sheanut oil (Vitellaria paradoxa), developed by BSP Pharma A/S as an anti-inflammatory nutraceutical for the management of osteoarthritis. The extract is concentrated in triterpene esters, including butyrospermol, lupeol, and alpha and beta amyrin, which function by inhibiting the production of key pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6). Clinical studies have demonstrated that BSP-201 effectively reduces pain, stiffness, and physical dysfunction in patients with osteoarthritis of the knees and hips. It is commercially available under the brand name FlexNow Joint Formula and has been extensively researched under the designations SheaFlex70 and SheaFlex75. The product holds GRAS status in the United States and is regulated as a dietary ingredient.
