BST-1002 is an experimental anti-angiogenic and anti-neoplastic agent developed by BioStratum. It is a recombinant version of Tumstatin, a 28-kDa fragment derived from the non-collagenous (NC1) domain of the alpha 3 chain of type IV collagen. BST-1002 exerts its therapeutic effects by binding to alpha V beta 3 (αvβ3) integrins on the surface of vascular endothelial cells. This binding triggers a signaling cascade that inhibits cap-dependent protein translation and induces apoptosis in these cells, thereby suppressing tumor angiogenesis and growth. The development of BST-1002 was part of BioStratum's focus on basement membrane-derived proteins for the treatment of cancer and other diseases, though development appears to have ceased following the company's financial restructuring.
