Overview

BST-InPod is a drug-device combination product developed by Insulet Corporation for the treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD). It integrates the active pharmaceutical ingredient buprenorphine with Insulet's proprietary InPod technology, a wearable, automated subcutaneous delivery system originally derived from the OmniPod insulin pump. Buprenorphine functions as a partial agonist at the mu-opioid receptor and an antagonist at the kappa-opioid receptor, which helps to mitigate withdrawal symptoms and cravings while limiting the respiratory depression and euphoria associated with full opioid agonists. By utilizing a wearable pod for continuous subcutaneous administration, BST-InPod is designed to provide stable plasma concentrations of buprenorphine, potentially improving patient adherence and clinical outcomes compared to daily sublingual or periodic injectable formulations.
