Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BTQ1902 is a non-aqueous, preservative-free ophthalmic suspension of timolol utilizing Novaliq's EyeSol technology, which is the first water-free technology for ocular drug delivery. This formulation offers several advantages over traditional eye drop technology, including smaller drop size (approximately 25% of water-based drops), potential for less systemic absorption and fewer negative systemic side effects, longer residence time on the eye, better penetration into ocular tissues, and no need for toxic preservatives. Timolol is a beta blocker that reduces intraocular pressure by blocking sympathetic nerve endings in the ciliary epithelium, causing a decrease in aqueous humor production.
