Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BTX 1503 is a topical pharmaceutical drug developed for the treatment of moderate to severe acne. Its active ingredient is synthetic cannabidiol, delivered using Botanix Pharmaceuticals' proprietary Permetrex drug delivery technology. The mechanism of action involves targeting multiple pathogenic pathways in acne, including inhibition of excessive sebum (oil) production, reduction of inflammation, and potential antibacterial effects. Clinical studies have shown that BTX 1503 achieves significant reductions in both inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne lesions with a favorable safety profile—demonstrating very low rates of adverse events compared to other topical treatments. Unlike oral isotretinoin (Accutane), which carries significant systemic side effects, BTX 1503 offers localized therapy with improved tolerability[2][5][6][8].
