Overview

Bu Pi Wei Xie Yin Huo Sheng Yang Tang (補脾胃瀉陰火升陽湯) is a classical Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula first recorded by the physician Li Dong-yuan in the 13th-century text *Pi Wei Lun* (Treatise on the Spleen and Stomach). The formula is designed to address a complex pattern of Spleen and Stomach Qi deficiency accompanied by "Yin Fire," which refers to internal heat arising from deficiency. Its therapeutic actions include tonifying the middle jiao, clearing heat, and ascending the clear Yang. Clinically, it is used for symptoms such as fatigue, low-grade fever, thirst, and digestive weakness. The formula typically consists of a combination of herbs including *Astragalus membranaceus*, *Panax ginseng*, *Atractylodes macrocephala*, and *Phellodendron amurense*. It is not a modern pharmaceutical product and lacks a single molecular target or a commercial developer.
