Bu-Shen-An-Tai Recipe

Bu-Shen-An-Tai Recipe (BSATR), also known as Bushenantai or the modified Bushen Antai recipe (BSAT), is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula used primarily to support pregnancy and prevent miscarriage. It is composed of multiple medicinal herbs and has been used for centuries in China. Preclinical studies indicate that it improves endometrial morphology during peri-implantation by increasing endometrial thickness, microvessel density (MVD), and pinopode formation[1]. In animal models of pregnancy loss induced by mifepristone or ovarian dysfunction, the recipe upregulates estrogen receptor alpha and progesterone receptor expression at the maternal-fetal interface[2][3], increases placental development markers such as Ki67 and phospho-Akt/AKT[2], inhibits apoptosis in ovarian granulosa cells via upregulation of Bcl-2 protein expression[4], and may modulate inflammatory pathways related to pyroptosis[6]. The formula is most commonly indicated for threatened abortion/pregnancy loss but may also be used in infertility associated with "kidney deficiency" patterns per TCM theory.
