Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BuccaGLP is an investigational, needle-free buccal formulation of semaglutide being developed by Insu Therapeutics, a spin-off from the University of British Columbia. The formulation utilizes a mucoadhesive, layered dosage-form architecture designed to adhere to the inner cheek (buccal mucosa) and direct the unidirectional release of semaglutide particles toward the underlying tissue, facilitating absorption directly into the bloodstream and avoiding gastrointestinal degradation. BuccaGLP is being developed as a potential non-invasive, needle-free alternative to injectable GLP-1 receptor agonists for the treatment of metabolic diseases, including type 2 diabetes and obesity.
