Buccalin

Buccalin is an oral bacterial lysate used for the prophylaxis of recurrent lower respiratory tract infections (RLRTIs). It functions as an oral vaccine or immunostimulant, consisting of a mixture of inactivated bacterial species commonly associated with respiratory diseases, including *Streptococcus pneumoniae*, *Staphylococcus aureus*, *Haemophilus influenzae*, and *Streptococcus pyogenes*. By stimulating the mucosal immune system, Buccalin enhances the production of secretory IgA and activates non-specific immune defenses, thereby reducing the frequency and severity of infection episodes. The drug is typically administered in a cyclic manner and is currently being evaluated in Phase 4 post-authorization efficacy and safety studies (PAES) to further confirm its clinical benefit in adults with recurrent infections.
