Overview

Budesonide + carmoterol is a fixed-dose combination inhaler under development for the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Budesonide is an inhaled corticosteroid that reduces inflammation in the airways, while carmoterol is a long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (LABA) that relaxes bronchial smooth muscle to improve airflow. The combination aims to provide both anti-inflammatory and bronchodilatory effects for maintenance therapy in patients with obstructive airway diseases. Carmoterol, unlike formoterol or salmeterol, is an ultra-long-acting LABA designed for once-daily dosing. This combination has been investigated as a potential alternative to other ICS/LABA combinations.
