Budesonide in BLES refers to a combination of budesonide, a synthetic corticosteroid with potent topical anti-inflammatory activity, and BLES (Bovine Lipid Extract Surfactant). Studies, specifically an in vitro study referenced [5], have examined the effects of budesonide on surfactant properties, including BLES. This study found that budesonide markedly reduced the surface-tension-lowering properties of surfactant preparations, including BLES, particularly at higher concentrations. Budesonide's general mechanism of action involves binding to and activating glucocorticoid receptors (GR) in the cytoplasm, which then translocates to the nucleus to regulate gene expression, reducing inflammation by inhibiting inflammatory genes and activating genes that reduce cytokine formation.
