Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bufei Decoction is a traditional Chinese herbal formula used primarily for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), especially in patients with lung-qi deficiency syndrome. It has been applied for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine. The decoction typically consists of multiple herbs designed to tonify (strengthen) the lungs, regulate immune function, and reduce inflammation. Mechanistically, Bufei Decoction has been shown to improve lung function and protect against lung injury by modulating immune cell balance—specifically reducing proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-6 and IL-17, increasing anti-inflammatory cytokines like IL-10 and TGF-beta, decreasing the Th17/Treg cell ratio, downregulating ROR-gamma t expression in Th17 cells, and upregulating Foxp3 expression in Treg cells[1]. Clinical studies suggest it improves symptoms and quality of life in COPD patients without significant adverse effects[5][1].
