Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bufei Yishen Fang (BYF), also known as Bufei Yishen formula, is a patented (No. ZL.201110117578.1) traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It consists of twelve medicinal herbs and is administered orally, often as granules. According to TCM principles, it is designed to tonify the lung and kidney, resolve phlegm, and promote blood circulation. Clinical studies and meta-analyses suggest it can reduce the frequency of exacerbations, improve lung function (FEV1), enhance exercise capacity (6-minute walk test), and improve quality of life (CAT scores) in patients with stable COPD, often in combination with conventional Western medicine. [1, 2, 3, 4] Its mechanism of action is multifactorial, involving the suppression of inflammatory cytokine expression (such as IL-17 and TNF-α), protection of the airway epithelial barrier, regulation of the protease-antiprotease balance, and enhancement of autophagy through the Sirt1/AMPK/Foxo3 signaling pathway.
