Bufferin Cold

Bufferin Cold (commonly known as 日夜百服宁 in China) is an over-the-counter combination cold medication developed and manufactured by Sino-American Shanghai Squibb Pharmaceuticals, a joint venture of Bristol Myers Squibb and Shanghai Pharmaceuticals. It is formulated as a day-and-night tablet system designed to relieve symptoms of the common cold and viral upper respiratory tract infections. The daytime formulation (deep orange film-coated tablets) contains acetaminophen (paracetamol) for pain and fever relief, pseudoephedrine hydrochloride as a nasal decongestant, and dextromethorphan hydrobromide as a cough suppressant, without causing drowsiness. The nighttime formulation (deep blue film-coated tablets) includes these three ingredients plus chlorpheniramine maleate, an antihistamine that relieves runny nose and sneezing while promoting restful sleep. Bufferin Cold has been evaluated in clinical trials in China as an active control to assess the efficacy of traditional Chinese medicines, such as Shanggan Granules, in treating acute fever and symptoms of viral upper respiratory tract infections.
