Overview

Bukuryoingohangekobokuto is a Kampo (Japanese traditional herbal) medicine that represents a combination of two distinct formulas: Bukuryoin and Hangekobokuto. It is traditionally indicated for gastrointestinal disorders, particularly those involving bloating, nausea, and the sensation of a foreign body in the throat (globus pharyngeus). The formula is composed of several botanical extracts, including Poria Sclerotium, Pinellia Tuber, and Magnolia Bark. In modern clinical research, it is being investigated for its efficacy in treating aerophagia (pathological air swallowing) in pediatric and young adult populations, where it is hypothesized to reduce intestinal gas and improve gastric emptying by enhancing gastrointestinal motility and addressing psychosomatic symptoms.
