Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bulanta is a DMA-free intravenous formulation of busulfan, a bifunctional DNA alkylating agent, being developed by GreenJay Therapeutics. Busulfan is traditionally used as a conditioning agent prior to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) for various hematologic malignancies and genetic disorders. Standard IV busulfan formulations utilize dimethylacetamide (DMA) as a solvent, which is associated with significant toxicities, including hepatic veno-occlusive disease (VOD) and neurotoxicity. Bulanta is designed to eliminate DMA-related toxicity while maintaining the therapeutic efficacy of busulfan. It is currently in IND-enabling studies for a wide range of indications, including leukemias (AML, CML, ALL), lymphomas (HL, NHL), multiple myeloma, and non-malignant conditions like sickle cell anemia, thalassemia, and Krabbe disease.
