bulevirtide + peginterferon alfa-2a

Bulevirtide + peginterferon alfa-2a is an investigational fixed-duration combination therapy for chronic hepatitis D virus (HDV) infection. Bulevirtide is a first-in-class entry inhibitor of the sodium taurocholate co-transporting polypeptide, blocking HDV entry into hepatocytes. Peginterferon alfa-2a is a pegylated recombinant human interferon that activates immune antiviral pathways through the type 1 interferon receptor and JAK/STAT signaling. Combination therapy has demonstrated improved rates of sustained undetectable HDV RNA compared to monotherapy in phase 2b/3 trials. This regimen is being developed and studied by Gilead Sciences as a finite treatment for chronic HDV infection[1][3][5].
