Overview

Bunaftine is a class III antiarrhythmic agent used experimentally for the treatment and prevention of both ventricular and supraventricular arrhythmias. Its primary mechanism involves prolonging the myocardial refractory period and stabilizing cardiac cell membranes. Bunaftine acts as a potassium channel blocker, leading to delayed repolarization of cardiac action potentials. This results in sinus bradycardia, prolongation of atrial refractory periods, depression of intranodal and infranodal conduction, and prolongation of His-Purkinje system refractory periods[1][3][7]. It is structurally classified as a naphthalenecarboxamide derivative[2].
