Overview
buparlisib + nabpaclitaxel is a combination therapy consisting of buparlisib (BKM120), an oral pan-class I phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) inhibitor, and nabpaclitaxel (Abraxane), an albumin-bound nanoparticle formulation of the taxane paclitaxel. Buparlisib inhibits the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway, which is frequently dysregulated in various cancers, while nabpaclitaxel disrupts microtubule function to inhibit cell division. This combination was investigated in a Phase I trial sponsored by Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, specifically targeting patients with advanced solid tumors, with expansion cohorts for recurrent endometrial and ovarian cancers.
