Overview

Bupivacaine + lidocaine is a clinician-administered combination of two amide local anesthetics used for local and regional anesthesia, including infiltration and nerve or fascial-plane blocks. Both agents inhibit voltage-gated sodium channels in excitable tissue, suppressing sodium-dependent initiation and propagation of nerve impulses; the combination is used to provide regional analgesia while balancing lidocaine's relatively rapid onset with bupivacaine's longer anesthetic duration. It is not a single globally standardized or uniquely marketed fixed-dose product; published studies commonly describe separately supplied injectable solutions mixed or administered together for a procedure.
