Overview

This combination drug preparation is an analgesic mixture investigated for the management of postoperative pain, specifically following laparoscopic cholecystectomy. It consists of two local anesthetics, bupivacaine and lidocaine, which provide rapid and prolonged blockade of nerve conduction; epinephrine, a vasoconstrictor added to reduce systemic absorption and extend the duration of the local anesthetic effect; and morphine, an opioid analgesic that provides regional pain relief. In clinical study contexts, this mixture is often soaked into an absorbable hemostatic material, such as Surgicel, which acts as a reservoir for the sustained local release of the medications at the surgical site (e.g., the gallbladder bed or port sites). The preparation was developed and studied by researchers at Assiut University.
